Once you’ve been working on a project for long enough to become an expert, you’ve seen it all. That’s what being an expert entails for most people.
And that’s the problem.
The best experts know which questions still need to be asked. They don’t get lazy or complacent. They don’t get touchy when someone attacks one of their assumptions or angry when someone doesn’t agree with them right away.
Most of all, the best experts remember that experience is not a substitute for paying attention.
